Title:
Applied Model-Based Systems Engineering: From Subsystem Architecture to Closed-Loop Simscape Simulation
Abstract:
This presentation explores the application of Model-Based Systems Engineering concepts to demonstrate the difference between system architecture and dynamic physical simulation. The research shows 3 separate projects with various complexities. Beginning with a parametric model of the communication subsystem in the ISOS which is integrated into a full orbital segment system. Building upon this foundation, the project transitions into a control design by modeling a closed-loop PID controller for a drone stabilization system. Finally, the presentation details the implementation of the PID loop within a Simscape environment, showing real-time simulation.

Limitations of SysML v1 using a Trade Study on Landing Gear Architectures
Abstract:
Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is a digital methodology used to design, analyze, and verify a product or system. Within MBSE, SysML is one of the most widely used modeling languages. Though SysML v1 has been around for more than a decade, with newer API, some companies have started to switch to a textual editor version called SysML v2. This seminar focuses on using a landing gear architecture trade study to test out the limitations of Version 1. Using three different architectures, with consistent conditions drawn from physics principles and industry standards, the model establishes a fair comparison. The parametric equations, requirements, and structures while creating the model will be analyzed to see where SysML v1 struggles.
